Professor Nicholas Negroponte is the founder and chairman of One Laptop per Child, a nonprofit association dedicated to developing a $100 laptop, a technology that could revolutionize how we educate the world's children. Professor Negroponte has been a member of the MIT faculty since 1966, was the co-founder and former director of the MIT Media Lab, and was the Jerome B. Wiesner Professor of Media Technology. A pioneer in the field of computer-aided design, he is also the author of the best-selling book Being Digital, which has been translated into more than 40 languages. In the private sector, Nicholas serves on the board of directors for Motorola, is a general partner in a venture capital firm specializing in digital technologies for information and entertainment, and is a member of the Special Committee of News Corporation. He has provided startup funds for more than 40 companies, including Wired magazine.
